A RAPIST who filmed his sickening actions on his phone as his victim lay unconscious has been jailed for 12 years.
The incident is believed to have happened in 2016, when Barry Wemyss raped the victim and recorded the offence on his phone.
In May 2017 police were made aware of the incident by someone the victim had spoken to about the offence and when officers arrested Wemyss, they seized his phone, where they discovered the harrowing video.
The 42-year-old, of Cheviot Mount, Newcastle, pleaded guilty to one count of rape in March and has been sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court.
Detective Sergeant Dave Garrity, said: “The fact Wemyss filmed such a sickening offence on his phone for his own personal sexual gratification shows how dangerous and truly horrific this man is. This ordeal has had a significant impact on the victim but I hope today can bring a sense of closure for her to be able to move on with her life.”
