YOUNGSTERS are being given the opportunity to try out an exciting form of cheerleading this weekend.

All-Star Cheerleading is a form of gymnastics, where tumbling meets acrobatics.

Teams perform a high energy two-and-a-half-minute routine, comprising of stunts, tumbles, jumps, pyramids and athletic dance.

Durham City Gymnastics Club in Sherburn Village, Durham, is hosting a taster session for children aged three to 16 on Saturday between 1pm and 2pm.

Head coach Glen Wharton is a national junior coach in tumbling for British Gymnastics and also developed all of the tumbling activities at Deerness Gymnastics Academy between 2005 and 2016.

Earlier this year he was named Outstanding Coach of the year by British Gymnastics

Chloe Peacock, of Durham City Gymnastics Club, said: “Here at Durham City Allstars we strive to provide a family atmosphere, with a coaching team comprising of dedicated former international gymnasts, and a gym which hosts some of the best training facilities in the UK. I am really proud of all of our gymnasts and what they have achieved this year and we look forward to welcoming many more gymnasts to our squads this weekend.”
