A THRILL-SEEKING Army cadet has earned selection for a ground-breaking outdoor adventure programme in Iceland.
Following a tough selection process Durham cadet Corporal William Thorley, has earned a place in the Jubilee Sailing Trust’s (JST) Dangoor Infinity expedition.
The 16-year-old, from Stanley, is the only cadet from the North-East, and one of 64 across the UK, to be selected after a rigorous selection event in Hertfordshire.
He will set sail for Iceland in August to take part in the mixed-ability event, combining a tall ship voyage and a wilderness expedition, delivered by a partnership between the trust and the British Exploring Society (BES).
But he must first raise £900 to take part in what in the four-week experience of a lifetime, which will see one group sailing to Iceland in a tall ship, while the other will fly to Iceland to begin a land expedition, swapping roles two weeks later.
Corp Thorley said: “I’m really excited for this summer, to take part in something new and different, something I can only describe as life-changing and ambitious.
“The selection event has been amazing and a privilege to meet so many new peers.”
