A MALE singing ensemble is seeking new voices on the eve of its diamond jubilee celebration.

Shiney Row Male Voice Choir’s milestone 60th anniversary looms after six decades performing round the region, and beyond.

Treasurer Keith Riley-Gledhill said: “Sixty years ago a group of men from Shiney Row got together to form a male voice choir.

“Little did they know in the next sixty years their choir would sing at prestigious venues throughout the country, including the Royal Albert Hall, The Usher Hall, The Sage and Durham Cathedral.”

The choir’s Diamond Anniversary Concert is at Ewesley Road Methodist Church, off Chester Road, Sunderland, SR4 7RJ, on Saturday, at 7pm, when they will be joined by soprano Rachel Orr.

It will be a recorded performance for the choir’s next CD.

Tickets, costing £7, are available on the door.

The choir is always constantly seeking new members. Recruits should be male and share the choir ethos of “rejoicing in singing”.

No other qualifications are needed, with full details of membership available via www.shineyrowmvc.org.uk, the choir’s website.
