A UNIQUE fitness class set to uplifting swing music has been launched.

Meadowfield Leisure Centre, near Durham, is inviting people to get moving to the sensational swing songs of the 1920s, all the way up to the 1950s, with its new SwingFit class.

The fun sessions, on Thursdays at 10.30am, offer people the chance to get lively through fun, low impact movements.

Joo-Lee Stock, founder of SwingFit, said: “I’m so excited to launch these new classes, and I’ve seen first-hand how they improve the health and well-being of every person who loves to dance.”

Classes in May will cost £3, subsidised by the Durham County Council’s Ways to Wellbeing programme which aims to support adults to improve their health before classes go to the normal price of £5 in June.

Helen Tones, the council’s physical activity co-ordinator, said: “Bringing in new classes that appeal to all ages and activity levels is really exciting.

“People can come along and give it a go for free, which is a great way to get active and also to meet new people.”
