MORE than 200 children have been taking part in Easter holiday camps in Durham.

Nine days of camps were held by Durham University at its Maiden Castle sports centre during the school holidays.

Young people took part in a range of activities including sports like American football, tri-golf, kick rounders and tennis as well as crafts and adventure activities like shelter building, fencing, archery and orienteering.

Harry Hopcroft, 11, from Durham, who took part in the sports adventure camp, said: “It’s been really good. It’s a great experience and we get to make new friends.”

The camps are run by university staff and volunteers, including students and local school pupils.

Phill Hancock, the holiday camps co-ordinator, said: “To see the children enjoying themselves in an active and safe way is brilliant.

"We’re grateful to our students and local volunteers for all their help.”
