POLICE have made a further arrest following a crash that led to the death of a man.

Michael Armstrong, 35, of Ryhope, Sunderland, was a passenger in a car that was in collision with a garden fence on Kingston Mews, Philadelphia, near Houghton-le-Spring, in Wearside, shortly after 11.30pm on Saturday.

Officers were called to nearby Ross Lea, in Shiney Row, shortly after the collision and found Mr Armstrong with serious injuries to his abdomen.

He died in hospital on Tuesday.

An investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the collision and how Mr Armstrong came to sustain his injuries.

Officers have arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He remains in police custody and is assisting officers with their enquiries.

Three people who were initially arrested in connection with the incident remain under investigation.

Police are eager for any witnesses to the collision who are yet to come forward and speak to officers to get in touch.
