A COMMUNITY officer has been recognised for assisting a vulnerable lady.

PCSO Brian Donnelly, from Chester-le-Street neighbourhood team was presented with a WOW Award at a recent ceremony hosted by Superintendent Chris Curtis.

He came to the aid of an elderly lady whose house was targeted on Halloween.

She said: “Brian demonstrated considerable care and a great concern for my well being.”

On arrival to the incident, he noticed that the windows of the property had been ‘egged’, and immediately set away in cleaning the windows.

PCSO Donnelly noticed that the lady began to deteriorate and quickly established that she was suffering from shock and called an ambulance.

PCSO Donnelly said: “Those partaking in anti-social behaviour often don’t understand the consequences it can have on a vulnerable victim who believe they are being targeted.

“What would have been harmless fun for those involved, could have turned into a much more serious incident had I not attended.”
