A STUDENT production of a classic Hollywood musical is on stage this week.

Durham University Light Opera Group (DULOG) is putting on Singin’ in the Rain at the Gala Theatre, Durham, until Saturday.

The show is making a splash thanks to an indoor rain machine, which is being used for the rendition of the title song, made famous by Gene Kelly.

Company President Caroline Mosimann said: “For many years DULOG has floated the idea of putting on ‘Singin in the Rain’ but found the prospects of onstage rain and the extraordinary tap requirements too daunting.

“This year we have taken on these challenges and the results have been really stunning.”

“DULOG has been producing high quality shows in Durham for over 75 years and we look forward to performing in the Gala every year, it’s a brilliant venue and allows us to raise our production’s quality of professionalism to the next level.”

More than 85 students are involved in the production, which is on at 7pm each night until Saturday, with a matinee show on Saturday at 2.30pm.

Tickets are priced from £8.50-£14.50 and are available fromthe Gala Box Office, or by calling 03000 266 600.
