A SCHOOLGIRL has donated hair to a charity which provides wigs to young people who have lost their own due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.

Mia Greaves of Newton Hall, Durham, decided to grow her hair and donate it to the Little Princess Trust after reading about someone else who had given their hair to the charity.

Her mother, Lucy Greaves, thought it would be a good chance to raise money for a local charity at the same time.

They chose the Spennymoor-based Solan Connor Fawcett Family Cancer Trust, which helps families in County Durham, who are affected by the disease.

Local hairdresser Lucy Yallop agreed to cut the nine-year-old’s hair free of charge.

Mia, who is a pupil at Blue Coat Junior School, raised £425 in total for The Solan Connor Fawcett Family Cancer Trust.

She was given a round of applause from her classmates for her efforts.

Mia said: “I read a story about a little girl donating her hair for the Little Princess Trust and wanted to do the same.

“I thought it would be a nice thing to do. I am delighted with my haircut as well.”
