A TRIBUTE show to Johnny Cash endorsed by the legendary singer’s own granddaughter is rolling into the region.
The Johnny Cash Roadshow, fronted by singer/songwriter Clive John, visits the Sunderland Empire on January 21.
Cash classics such as Walk the Line, Folsom Prison Blues and Thing Called Love will feature in the show, described by the Man in Black’s own granddaughter Caitlin Crowell as “authentic to the point where it felt it wasn’t a tribute”.
The cast, featuring Clive John as Cash, Emily Heighway as June Carter, Nick Davis on guitars, bassist Martin Bentley and drummer Graham Cutill. covers five decades of Cash’s life and the musical life of Johnny and June complemented by big screen images and a compelling narrative.
Authenticity is added to the production thanks to two original Johnny Cash harmonicas, gifted to Clive by a friend of Johnny Cash after a gig, and an exact replica of Johnny’s Gibson J-200 guitar.
Other venues on the tour include Newcastle City Hall and the Grand Opera House in York.
