ROAD CLOSED: Station Road in Penshaw has been closed after a vehicle hit the bridge.
A ROAD has been closed after a vehicle struck the underside of a low bridge.
Station Road in Penshaw, near Sunderland, is currently closed due to the collision.
It happened late on Monday afternoon and police said the bridge is now unsafe.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “The road is expected to remain closed for some time. “Please use an alternative route.”
