FOLK rockers Dennis are giving a unique concert backed by a youth brass band in aid of the renovation of, ‘The Pitman’s Parliament’.
The Glastonbury-performing “pit-pop” band is teaming up with award-winning Houghton Area Youth Band, at Redhills, Durham.
A one-off performance, it is a fundraiser to restore the historic buildings hall at the Durham Miners’ Association (DMA) headquarters, to “future proof” it, so it can play a role as a centre for education, heritage and culture.
There is a £5m target to fund the restoration of Redhills, considered “irreplaceable” by Historic England and among the nation’s top ten buildings in terms of the nation’s history of ‘Power, Protest and Progress’.
Saturday’s concert sees Dennis, from the Durham Coalfield colliery community of Hetton-le-Hole, perform in unison with the youth band, from neighbouring Houghton-le-Spring.
It runs from 7.0 to 10.30pm, with ticket details available from www.dennisband.com, www.redhillsdurham.org, or by ringing 0191-386 8413.
