COMMUNITY groups are vying for a share of funding at an event this weekend.

The Durham Area Action Partnership is holding its annual event to see which groups and projects it should support in the coming months.

Community centres, sports clubs, music groups, youth organisations and history groups are among the 17 organisations which have signed up to try and win a share of the £20,000 funding pot.

The event, which takes place at the Town Hall, in Market Place, Durham, between 10am and 2pm on Saturday, will also include a coffee morning to raise money for the Royal British Legion.

AAP chairwoman councillor Amanda Hopgood said: “This is a real chance for local people to make a difference in their communities and for them to find out more about what is going on locally.”

Durham AAP coordinator Craig Morgan added: “We are also asking people to think about local priorities and say what they think the AAP should be focusing its efforts on over the next couple of year so people will be able to vote on this as well as voting for their favourite projects.”
