A FREE ping pong parlour has opened in a city centre.

The venue, which has five ping pong tables, has opened at Prince Bishops Shopping Centre, in Durham.

It forms part of the centre’s fun land, which also features Bertie’s Play Barn and Santa’s grotto, which opens on Saturday.

It includes five table tennis tables and caters for anyone over the age of five.

Centre manager Richard Toynbee said: “We are delighted to be working with County Durham Sport and Brandon Table Tennis Club to accommodate the Ping Pong Parlour at Prince Bishops Shopping Centre. Last weekend, we welcomed over 130 people keen to try out the new facility, and it looks set to become an extremely popular resource for the centre of Durham. The eldest member of the public to enjoy ‘a knock’, so far, was 88 years old, proving that it really is a game for all ages.

“The Ping Pong Parlour is completely free of charge, and open until early January 2019. We welcome everyone to pop along for ‘a knock’ any time during shopping opening hours.”
