A MAN has admitted going on a mini crime spree in a County Durham village less than a fortnight after leaving court with a suspended prison sentence.

Appearing at Durham Crown Court for a plea hearing, via video link from the city’s adjoining prison, Jordan Douglas admitted a total of eight charges put to him, all said to have taken place on Monday August 20, this year.

The 29-year-old defendant, of East Vines, in the East End, Sunderland, is said to have stolen a set of car keys and then driven the vehicle, a Nissan Qashqai, on the B183, while disqualified and without insurance.

He also pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted burglary, with intent to steal in both cases, plus one charge of burglary, all of properties in Front Street and St Cuthbert’s Close, in Sacriston.

A lap-top computer, a mobile phone and bank cards were among items taken by Douglas from the burgled house.

He also admitted stealing a number plate from a woman’s parked car, on the same day.

Victoria Lamballe, prosecuting, told the court there is an alleged accomplice who has denied the charges and is due to stand trial at the court in mid-December.

“As a result, the sentence in this case will have to be put back to await the outcome of that trial, involving the co-accused.”

Jamie Adams, for Douglas, said: “It will inevitably be a custodial sentence and he knows that .”

Remanding Douglas to remain in custody until sentence, Judge Christopher Prince said it was not a case where he would require a probation report.
