A TALENTED young gymnast who trains County Durham has won a silver medal in the Tumbling World Championships in Russia.

Shanice Davidson, who trains at Durham City Gymnastics Club, claimed second spot in the final on Friday, scoring 69.500 points.

She finished behind the defending champion Jia Fangfang of China and ahead of club mate and British champion Rachel Davies, who was fifth.

The 18-year-old from Washington said: “I’m speechless, I really can’t believe it.

"I’m so happy with how I performed in my first senior worlds. I don’t look at the scoreboard when the competition’s going on so to see I was in silver at the end was incredible.

"I really don’t know how to react - it doesn’t feel real. It gives me a massive amount of confidence and I’ll keep on working on my difficulty and hopefully be back again next year for more.”
