THE annual Remembrance Day parade in Houghton-le-Spring, featuring former and serving service personnel, cadets and scouts, takes place, on Sunday.

All those taking part in the parade are asked to gather on the road next to the Lidl store, off the A182 Hillside Way, from 9am.

Led by Houghton Brass Band, the march-off heads along Newbottle Street to St Michael and All Angels Parish Church, in the Broadway, for the Sung Eucharist service, at 10am.

At the conclusion of the service, the congregation is invited outside to the War Memorial, in the church grounds, where the traditional wreath-laying ceremony takes place.

Events conclude with the Last Post and two minutes’ silence before all those involved in the parade march back along Newbottle Street, also led by the band.
