YOUNG actors and actresses are putting on a festival of drama at a historic North-East venue.

The Durham School festival of drama and music takes place on Tuesday, November 13 at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House in Newcastle.

Pupils have put together a varied programme, including songs from musicals including Mamma Mia, Can You Feel The Love Tonight and Greased Lightning as well as extracts from Journey’s End, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, The Demon Headmaster, A Christmas Carol and Teechers.

The performances will be judged by County Durham producer and actor Hugo Nicholson, with the winners announced at the end of the night.

Amy Brownlee, director of drama, said: ““This is a really exciting and entirely student-led project, which offers our pupils a real opportunity to get a sense of what it takes to put on a professional show.

“They are responsible for everything from choosing the music and the drama pieces to perform, all the way through to musical arrangements, costume, set, lighting, sound. It’s a real challenge but one they really enjoy.”

Tickets are available from the box office on 0844 2491 000 or tynetheatreandoperahouse.uk.
