A CANCER survivor who has raised thousands of pounds since being diagnosed is holding a charity rock night.

Sherburn grandmother Christine Sewell has been raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support since 2012, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

The 70-year-old has raised more than £11,500 for the charity since her diagnosis through annual events in Sherburn Village.

This year, her team of fundraisers are putting on an evening of entertainment at Sherburn Village Club on Friday, October 19, including performances by Rob Slater’s Rock Choir and Pittington Brass Band.

Last Christmas marked Mrs Sewell being five years cancer-free, which meant she was able to get travel insurance to go to the US, where she celebrated her 70th birthday.

Tickets for the event, which also includes a tombola, raffle and food, are £6 and are available from Sherburn Village Club or by calling Mrs Sewell on 0191 5979233.

Doors open at 7.15pm.
