A COMMUNITY athletics organisation is supporting a campaign to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health issues with a group run.
Leadgate Village Area Runners are backing #RunAndTalk, an England Athletics initiative, supported by Mind, the mental health charity.
A two-mile social run is being held on Wednesday, October 10 at 6pm, from the doctors’ surgery in Leadgate with options for walking, jogging and running so everyone is welcome.
Run leader Richard Judd said: “We’re often told that physical activity is good for our bodies and our minds but having a mental health problem can make it difficult to get started, for a number of reasons, ranging from negative body image, or a lack of self-esteem through to practical reasons such as having no one to go with, or not knowing where to get started.
“I began my own running journey by walking my first Park Run in July 2015.
“Running has improved both my physical and mental health well being.”
