KEVAN JONES, MP for North Durham, was at South Stanley Infant and Nursery School on the last day of term to congratulate class six on winning the regional premier League Primary Stars Poetry award.
Mr Jones presented the youngsters with their own copy of a new poetry book, which contains their poem, Bounce Back.
The class wrote the poem together, which impressed the judges, and were inspired by the competition’s theme, Resilience.
Mr Jones said: “I was delighted to meet the children, and was really impressed by their poem. Resilience is so important for people at all ages, and I’m sure that reading this will encourage people to ‘never give up’.”
Heather Kemp, headteacher at South Stanley Infant and Nursery School said: “We are extremely proud of the Class 6 children. Winning this award is a fantastic achievement, and the literacy and teamwork skills which the pupils have learnt will be invaluable as they move on to Junior School.”
Bounce Back
Believe in yourself
Once I conquered my fear
Understand the power of your friends
Never give up
Courage appears when you never give up
Effort is good for our body and brain
Be determined
Always bounce back if you don’t succeed
Can’t do it…YET?
Keep on BOUNCING BACK!
