A NEIGHBOURHOOD warden is gearing up for the biggest challenge of her life later this summer.

Catherine Cullen-Jackson, from Consett, who works at Durham County Council, has been chosen to represent Great Britain in the WUKF World Karate Championships in Scotland in June, alongside her brother Alan.

She has been practising karate since she was 11 and trains four to six times a week at Consett Leisure Centre, the Louisa Centre in Stanley and Oxhill Youth Club.

She said: “Being chosen to represent Great Britain is a dream come true and makes the time spent training worth it. I can’t wait to go to the event in Dundee and the fact my brother will be beside me makes it even more special.

“Hopefully we will be bringing home the medals and making County Durham proud.”

A JustGiving page has been set up by the pair where they are hoping to raise £750 to put towards travelling, an official tracksuit, accommodation and the competition entry fees.
