A COMMUNITY centre has a bright new look thanks to volunteers and a paint project.
For years Great Lumley’s centre in Front Street has not been redecorated due to a lack of money.
But regeneration charity Groundwork nominated it for a Dulux Let’s Colour Project donation of brightly coloured paint , which was successful.
Members of the centre’s youth club led the way in creating paintwork designs and recruiting the volunteers to transform the interior of the sports hall, meeting room and main hall, using bright paints donated by Dulux Decorator Centres in Gateshead..
Centre spokeswoman Michelle Melvin, said: “It’s been fantastic to have been involved in the Let's Colour project and to brighten up our community centre with the support of Dulux and Groundwork.
“We are getting a very good response from the community about how much brighter the sports hall is and that it’s now a much more inviting place - the centre’s new look is making a big difference already.”
Karen Scully, manager of Dulux Decorator Centres on Gateshead’s Team Valley Trading Estate, said: “We were happy to help such a great project to impact so many lives in the local community. The centre is an important meeting place for many people and we hope they enjoy their new surroundings.”
