RESIDENTS are being invited to a walkabout where they can give their views on how £85,000 can be used to improve a Darlington park.

Users of Green Park, which is situated off Conniscliffe Road and Oakdene Avenue, are being asked to come along at 9.30am tomorrow to meet the Friends of Green Park, local councillors and a landscape architect.

The walkabout is in preparation for discussions on improved play equipment which will be funded by £85,000 from a 106 agreement from developers of the former Darlington College site.

The project may also secure match funding if the community can identify specific social inclusion and cohesion needs.

Park East ward councillors Cyndi Hughes and Joe Lyonette will be collecting student council members from St Augustine's primary school, located near the park, to take part in the walkabout.

The Friends group are hoping the money will be used to improve access and enjoyment of the park.

Coun Hughes said: "Everyone is welcome to put forward their views on this exciting and important project. At this time of economic down-turn we are extremely lucky to have any money for improving the park.

“We want the process to be as inclusive as possible so everyone, from young to old can feel ownership and pride in this community park.

"We have lots of creative ideas already but I'm sure there's someone out there who can join our group and make a real difference. It might be you.”
