A LIBRARY has launched an app to help users browse, check loans and renew books.

The Darlington Library app also allows users to browse the catalogue and reserve items.

Councillor Andy Keir, Darlington Borough Council’s cabinet member for local services, said: “We are excited to offer customers this new method of keeping in touch with our services. The app is easy to download and use, and provides users with a simple platform to browse our large range of stock; both physical copies of books and our digital eBooks and eAudio books at the click of a button from the comfort of their own home.

“Reopening after coronavirus, we wanted to offer people more choice of how their can use their library services. As such we now offer free home deliveries to customers aged over 60, and we have Covid-secure policies operating in Darlington Library on Crown Street.

“The app offers yet another choice as users can now ‘borrow’ and ‘return’ books using their own device in our library. It also allows people to self-manage their library account from home, while our staff will be on hand in the library itself to help if anyone needs it.”

The app is available on Android devices and will shortly be available from Apple stores.

Darlington Library on Crown Street is now open for people to return their books and for quick pick borrowing, Monday-Saturday, 10am-4pm, while Cockerton Library is open at various times during the week for returns and ‘click and collect’ only.

A free delivery service is available for Darlington residents aged over 60 who are library members.
