Residents of Darlington are being asked to update their electoral register information this month.

Darlington Borough Council is sending out canvass forms and is asking residents to respond as soon as possible.

The form enables the council to ensure the electoral register is as up-to-date as possible, and identify any residents who are not registered, so that they can be encouraged to do so.

Elections for the Durham Police and Crime Commissioner and the Tees Valley Combined Authority Mayor are scheduled for May 2021.

Luke Swinhoe, the council's electoral registration officer, said: “It is important that residents respond as soon as possible, so that we can make sure that we have the correct details on the electoral register for every address in Darlington.

“To make sure you are able to have your say at the elections next year, simply check the form when it arrives and respond as soon as you can."

“If you are not currently registered, your name will not appear on the form. If you want to register, the easiest way is on-line at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote, or we’ll send you information explaining how to do this in the post. In any case, you will still need to complete the form and send it back to us.”

People who have recently moved are particularly encouraged to keep an eye out for the form, and check the details.
