A PLANNING application has been submitted for the construction of affordable bungalows.
The construction is an amendment to a plan which was originally going to see the construction of ten new houses and a convenience store in Yarm Road, in Middleton St George.
The new plan is to build four affordable bungalows instead of the shop, bringing the total number of dwellings on the site to 16.
The proposed site is close to a bus route, while there is an existing shop within walking distance.
According to the application, the site is safe to build on but special measures will have to be taken to protect construction workers from a hotspot of arsenic.
The application suggests hand dug pits should be used to see the extent of the arsenic in the surrounding area.
If approved, the new proposal of four bungalows will be comprised of two detached and one pair of semi detached homes, each with a driveway and road access to Yarm Road.
The land is not currently in use.
The application is still yet to be decided and members of the public can comment by visiting Darlington Borough Council’s website.
