PEOPLE can dispose of household waste at a facility previously reserved for businesses, which is due to reopen next week.
Whilst the Waste Transfer Station at Darlington and the Waste Facility at Newton Aycliffe are designed for businesses, the John Wade Group, which runs the sites, acknowledges some residents are unable to safely store waste accumulated during the coronavirus pandemic due to the temporary closure of the Household Waste Recycling Centre, which residents would normally use.
But residents will soon be able to dispose of waste at Darlington's business site - for a price.
"Due to public demand we have decided that the Darlington site will be available for residents to dispose of waste. Please note that this is a paid service," the company said.
The Waste Transfer Station at Mewburn Road will re-open on Monday, April 20, from 8am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am to 12pm on Saturdays.
The Household Waste Recycling Centre closed in line with government guidance to help curb the spread of coronavirus.
The site will reopen as soon as restrictions are lifted, with information available on Darlington council's website.
