A GOLF course and spa forced to close due to coronavirus has donated hundreds of toiletries to a hospital after an appeal to help patients.

Rockliffe Hall has donated nearly 600 toiletry items to County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust following an appeal for products to help patients.

The hotel in Hurworth, near Darlington, gifted 576 shower gels, which normally go in guests’ rooms, to Darlington Memorial Hospital.

The decision follows a plea for products as many patients did not have toiletries and couldn't get any due to the current ban on visitors.

Pat Chambers, charity development manager at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, said: “When the call went out to local hotels to see if they could help the patients in Darlington Memorial there was a swift response from the team at Rockliffe Hall, donating two large boxes of shower gel to help our cause.

"During COVID-19 there is a total ban on visitors to the hospital, which leaves many patients, particularly emergency admissions, without access to essential toiletries.

"We are delighted with the support received from the Rockliffe team - huge thanks to everyone involved.”

Teresa Kingston, Commercial Director at Rockliffe Hall, said: “Rockliffe Hall always looks to support the local community so when we saw Pat’s appeal, our decision to donate products was immediate.”
