A TOWN'S Lion Club is encouraging men to have blood tests to spot prostate cancer early.
Darlington Lions Club is backing an event where men can get a free prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test to spot any early signs of prostate cancer.
The Lions Club is a global grassroots initiative to give back to the community.
According to Prostate Cancer UK, one man dies every hour fromthe disease.
It also claims that, by 2030, prostate cancer is set to be the most common cancer, however, survival in the UK has tripled in the last 40 years.
The Darlington Lions is sponsoring the blood test event on Saturday, May 16, at the Free Masons Hall, in a bid to get more people checked early.
Registered nurses and phlebotomists will take samples and patients could have results back within 72 hours.
Participants should register on ine via mypsatests.org.uk and book a time slot.
