SOME of the pictures from a huge archive of images from Darlington's past have gone on display.

The exhibition at the Centre for Local Studies, at Darlington Library, is open until the month.

The centre, based at the library in Crown Street, has more than 46,000 images of Darlington and the surrounding areas from through the decades.

In recent years, volunteers from the centre have been working to digitise as many of the slides and negatives from the collection as they can, with the aim of making them available for people to view online.

So far thousands of the images have been shared with the public through the website Flickr.

Some of those have gone on display at Darlington Library this month.

The exhibition features photographs of the town from throughout the 20th century, as well as things like posters from Darlington's Theatre Royal going back to the 1880s.

Members of the public are invited to call into the library to see the exhibition and find out more about the digital photo collection and how to view it.

The exhibition will be at the library until February 29.

As well as its photo archive, the Centre for Local Studies also has records, maps and local newspapers to help people discover more about local history.
