MORE than 40 people attended the first meeting of Darlington Climate Action, a group is made up of representatives of environmental organisations, community groups, and individuals.
Darlington Friends of the Earth called the meeting to try to co-ordinate interested organisations to have a greater voice, to hold the Borough Council, and others, to account and to improve on its declared ‘Climate Emergency’.
The Climate Action Group agreed to formulate plans to promote environmentally friendly policies and actions to the council, other statutory bodies, business, and the community in the Darlington Borough Council’s geographical area.
Kendra Ullyart, co-ordinator of Darlington Friends of the Earth said: “In Darlington we face unsustainable housing developments, a critical decline of wildlife, detrimental habitat loss, and the need to increase tree cover. Our town and villages suffer poor public transport services. These are just a few of the environmental issues that we need to address.”.
The next meeting of the Climate Action Group will be held on Monday, February 24 at 7.30pm in the Friends Meeting House, Skinnergate, DL3 7NB.
