A YOUNG Darlington team lost 5-0 tonight to Whickham in the Durham Challenge Cup.

Selected were three players - Chris Elliott, Osagi Bascome and Justin Donawa – who had previously been in Quakers’ starting XI this season and each of them completed the 90 minutes, as did Lucas Bell, who has been on the bench for Alun Armstrong's side.

The remainder of the team was made up of teenagers, Whickham winning the first-round tie comfortably.

It was 1-0 at half-time, Max Cowburn scoring a penalty after Bascome had felled Scott Robson, and it was Robson who made it 2-0 early in the second half.

Robson won another penalty when fouled by Darlington’s Lewis Alderson, Carl Finnigan scoring from the spot for 3-0, before Cowburn was on target again to make it 4-0 and Dale Burrell added the fifth.

Whickham included former Quakers keeper Adam Bartlett in their team, but there was no Jonny Burn, who last week joined after leaving Darlington.
