FOLLOWING recent successes with glamorous shows such as Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Top Hat and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Darlington Operatic Society is looking on the darker side for their current production – Jekyll & Hyde.

Based on the classic Gothic horror novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, Jekyll & Hyde the musical was nominated for no less than four Tony awards when it first opened on Broadway in 1997. Now, after three US tours, two UK tours and a 2013 Broadway Revival, Jekyll & Hyde is coming to Darlington Hippodrome stage for a limited run from Wednesday 23 October to Saturday 2 November.

In an attempt to cure his father’s mental illness by separating ‘good’ from ‘evil’ in the human personality, talented physician Dr Henry Jekyll accidentally creates an alternate personality of pure evil – the self-named Mr Edward Hyde, who wreaks havoc on the city of London. Dr Jekyll races to find a cure for the demon he has created before Mr Hyde takes over forever.

With a chilling tale wrapped around a passionate story of love, lust and rage Jekyll & Hyde is an enthralling musical of dark deeds done in dark places to tingle your spine in the long, dark autumn nights.

With music reminiscent of Les Miserables and a storyline as thrilling and chilling as Sweeney Todd, Jekyll & Hyde is a must-see show for any theatre lover – drama or musicals. Jekyll & Hyde is full of drama, passion and fantastic music.
