MODEL engineers and railway enthusiasts have unveiled their own version of LNER's new Class 800 and 801 trains.
The South Durham Society of Model Engineers, who run the miniature railway in the grounds of Hurworth Community Centre, near Darlington, has based its latest locomotive on LNER's new Azuma fleet.
The new trains are being rolled out across the East Coast Mainline to replace LNER's ageing Class 125 and 225 trains
The fleet of Class 800 and 801 trains have been built by Hitachi at their plant in Newton Aycliffe.
Meanwhile the society of engineers, which has been building and running its fleet of scaled down locomotive for the past 50 years near Darlington, said their trains had provided thousands of rides for adults and children in that time.
They said their latest project came as the track had "just been laid" for a 44mm gauge Garden Railway, which they are looking for enthusiasts to help with its layout.
Both railways will run as part of the Hurworth Country Fair on Saturday, September 14 with all proceeds from train rides going to the Great North Air Ambulance.
