AN ARTIST who has had her work displayed in the likes of National Portrait Gallery and Houses of Parliament has set up a new exhibition.

Photographer Elaine Vizor has set up her latest display, Ephemeral Light, in Darlington Town Hall in partnership with Darlington Creative.

The exhibition uses patterns and movements of light at night to capture fleeting, short-lived moments and was initially inspired by large-scale artworks that Mrs Vizor saw at Tate Modern in August 2011, where on huge, white, floor to ceiling canvases, rivulets of red paint flowed.

Elaine discovered another reference point for this work in November 2016. She visited the Chicago Institute of Art and viewed work by László Moholy-Nagy.

She said: "It's a work that breaks the usual rules of photography and I hope bridges the perceived gap between art and photography and contributes to the discussion about whether or not photography is art."

No stranger to exhibitions in the Town Hall, in 2016 the artist displayed her award-winning collection of striking portraits celebrating women over 50.

That same year the artist received national recognition for her photograph capturing the construction of the 16-metre sculpture In Our Image in Newton Aycliffe.

The Ephemeral Light exhibition will be available to view in the Town Hall until Friday, October 4.
