THE first bit of movement this week affecting Darlington’s squad has seen Mitchell Glover announce his exit.

The teenager midfielder has been on borrowed time for a while with manager Alun Armstrong eager to see him continue his career elsewhere.

Glover was brought to Quakers from Nuneaton in December 2017 by Tommy Wright, who rated him highly.

And he created a bit of history in March 2018 by becoming the first player born after January 1, 2000 to start a league game for Darlington.

But in 2018-19 found appearances hard to come by, playing just six times and five of those games came as a substitute.

He tweeted: “Thank you to Darlington for the past two years and especially the fans. Unfortunate to leave like this but that’s football.”

It is understood Glover was due to be a substitute for Darlington’s game at Northallerton Town last Tuesday, but his name did not appear on the team sheet.

Jonny Burn also remains out in the cold and Armstrong would like him off the club's books.

The Darlington-born defender played tonight for a Quakers XI that won 3-2 at Esh Winning, recovering from being 2-0 down at the break.

Scorers for Darlington were Brandon Morrison, Justin Donawa and Louis Hoare.

Donawa’s arrival as a Darlington player is due to be confirmed soon with the club currently awaiting international clearance, while Josh Heaton, Lucas Bell and Omar Holness have all agreed terms too.

Their arrivals will be announced soon, but Darlington may have to wait before they are able to play due to a backlog in the Football Association’s registrations department, a problem which has affected clubs across the country all summer.

Quakers’ season starts on Saturday with a trip to Farsley Celtic.
