A PRIMARY school has been recognised for its work in boosting the confidence of its pupils.

Corporation Road Primary School, in Darlington, took part in a creative project in partnership with Darlington Hippodrome to boost children’s self esteem.

Working with the school’s year 3 pupils, the children were invited to see a performance of Joseph at the theatre, took part in a meal out and were involved in other creative activities.

The children also took part in creative workshops at the school encouraging each other to boost their own self esteem and make new friends.

Last week, the school held a celebration assembly to mark the success of the project which was attended by the Mayor of Darlington, councillor Nick Wallis.

Ann Pringleton, headteacher at the school, said: “The children became much more confident in themselves and developed other friendship groups which is a great achievement.

“It allowed some of the children, who don’t have English as their first language, the opportunity to develop their English and build relationships with each other.

“It was a really positive experience for the children and the school.”
