COLLEGE students have once again showcased their photography skills in an annual competition.

Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College pupils took part in the World Around Us competition organised by the Darlington and Teesdale Naturalists’ Field Club (DTNFC).

DTNFC meet at the College every week during the winter months and hope to encourage more young people to take an interest in natural history.

For the competition, students were required to capture an image which represents an area of natural history, in addition to submitting a written summary explaining the context of the photograph.

Sophie White was the winner, securing a prize of £100, with a sunlit image of the Lake District, which was taken whilst she was completing Geography fieldwork in Wasdale.

Neave Heaton was second, winning £50, and Emma Baker finished third, securing £25.

Theresa Amarawansa, assistant principal, said: "We are extremely proud of Sophie, Neave and Emma – their high quality photographs could very easily be mistaken for professionals.

"To see young people take an interest in natural history is truly magnificent."
