A LONG-established amateur dramatics group is staging its latest play at The Majestic Theatre next week.

The Bondgate Players begin performances of Cash on Delivery by Michael Cooney tomorrow, Thursday, at the Majestic Theatre.

The farce follows the exploits of a man who has been claiming benefits for years for the numerous lodgers he claim live at his address – and when the authorities turn up he has to prove their existence.

Dorothy Norris, of the Bondgate Players, said: "We laughed out loud when we read the script – it is really funny.

"We've done plays in recent years that people might have heard of, like the Vicar of Dibley and Allo Allo, because we wanted to get people through the doors, so we were a bit worried not as many people would come to this – but it is very good. We have been rehearsing since January so it is polished."

She said many people thought the group had closed in recent years since the Arts Centre closed – but she said they had just been 'nomadic' until it found its home at the Majestic.

Cash on Delivery is on from June 6 to 10, at 7.30pm, at the Majestic in Darlington. Tickets are £10 on the door.
