PUPILS from a Darlington school have struck gold, silver and bronze during their annual netball tour and adventure weekend.
A total of 33 keen young netball players from Longfield Academy travelled to Boreatton Park, in Shropshire, to compete in a hard-fought competition over two days.
All of the Longfield teams taking part reached the semi-finals with the Year 8 pupils earning a bronze medal, Year 7s achieving silver, and the Year 9 and 10 girls winning gold.
The medals were presented by England defender Rebekah Airey, who plays for Manchester Thunder in the Super League. Rebekah gave the Darlington youngsters tips and inspired them to go on working hard towards their sporting goals.
Away from the netball courts, the Longfield girls also had the opportunity to quad bike, abseil and zip-wire as well as enjoy a full evening of entertainment.
Teacher Rebecca Eldrington, who organised the trip, said: “The girls have worked extremely hard all year to prepare and it has been the best Longfield Netball Tour yet. They showed determination, resilience and respect and were a credit to Longfield.”
The latest sporting success for Longfield comes hot on the heels of the school’s girls’ football team becoming county champions.
The football team played brilliantly to win the final 10-1 against St Bede’s School, from Lanchester. They are the first Darlington team to win the trophy which dates back to 1997.
