THE next generation of journalists capable of clinching Pulitzer Prizes are invited to sharpen their writing skills with the chance to pen their own headlines for a newspaper.
The Cornmill Shopping Centre will play host to an activity day for budding young reporters in partnership with Darlington College as part of their half-term programme.
The event will tie in to this year's Darlington Community Carnival which follows the theme of 'Through the Ages'.
Claire Turner, marketing and engagement manager from Darlington College said: “We’ll be offering students the opportunity to create their own headlines on a pre-populated newspaper we’ve created called Cornmill Heritage News.
"There will also be the chance to write their own story, find words in a word search and colour in heritage related pictures.
"We hope the event will not only be enjoyable but may also inspire young people to consider studying journalism.”
The workshop will be held between 11am an 2pm on Tuesday, May 28, in the Cornmill.
Susan Young, Centre manager at the Cornmill Centre, said: “Our ‘Through the Ages’ event allows children who attend the sessions the opportunity to make something for the Darlington Community Carnival, taking place on Saturday, June 29.
"We’re hopeful the writing event may also uncover fresh talent in the local area.
"All materials will be provided – all we ask is you bring your imagination."
