A SPONSORED baby buggy push through South Park has gathered momentum for a charity raising awareness of post-natal depression.

Puddle Ducks Tees Valley, which specialises in swimming lessons for babies and children in Darlington, teamed up with the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) for the fundraiser in Darlington.

Families with youngsters of all ages gathered together for a fun-filled warm-up, followed by a 5k walk and buggy push around the park. Each walker received a certificate for their efforts and raised more than £260 for the NCT Darlington and District, NCT Durham and NCT Teesside.

Alison Abbott, owner of Puddle Ducks Tees Valley, commented: “We were delighted to be able to get involved with the NCT Big Push. Post-natal depression is very common and yet there is still a stigma attached to it, so campaigns like The Big Push are really important to get the word out that there is help available.

“Swimming is an activity that positively encourages bonding between a baby and their parents providing relaxation as well as having fun, which makes the NCT a cause very close to our hearts.”
