A NEIGHBOURHOOD police officer has raised thousands of pounds for charity after completing the London Marathon.

PC Tracy Kirk, who works in Darlington, crossed the finish line on Sunday, raising almost £2,000 for charity.

She was running for the charity Phab Kids, which helps build better lives for children and their families in the UK.

Tracy, who has served with Durham Constabulary for 24 years, finished the 26.2-mile course in just over five hours.

“It was an unforgettable day which I will cherish forever, raising nearly £2,000 for my charity,” she said.

“It was a mental battle at mile 21 onward when my legs were wanting me to stop, but the impossible became the possible.

“I am so proud to have been a part of the marathon which has raised a billion pounds for good causes.”

Phab Kids has been running since 1957, and for nearly 60 years the charity has had a mission to support children and adults, with and without disabilities, to make more of life together.
