A SPATE of egg throwing incidents, with vehicles and homes being pelted with numerous eggs, is being investigated by police.

Hurworth residents reported several cases over last weekend, on or around April 28, with the inside of a van being targeted and several homes.

Some villagers reported that the problem was an ongoing one in recent months.

Durham Constabulary confirmed that at least one of the incidents had been reported to police.

She said that a report had been received of eggs being thrown at cars in the Sycamore Close area of Hurworth on the evening of April 28.

"The local beat team have been alerted to the issue," she said.

One woman said she had egg remnants all over the front of her house and window while garages in the Sanderson Road area had also been targeted.

Another said she had her house egged and caught the culprits before telling police where they lived.

A van parked on the village's recreational field was also targeted, residents said.

Eggs were pelted into the inside the van which would eventually make it smell rotten, they said.

Some of the culprits were said to be running up Blind Lane in Hurworth after the attacks.

One resident added: "We were targeted last night (May 1).

"Found a tray (still with four eggs in it) in a field at the end of the garden.

"This is the third attack over the last two months.

"Police have been informed on the last two occasions.

"Hope they put a crack team on it - although I don't find it funny really."
