A COMMUNITY dog show will be held next month and is open to anyone who would like to put their pooch to the test.

Cockerton Fun Dog Show will take place at Cockerton Green on Saturday, May 25.

The family-friendly event will host ten categories for people to enter their dog with a chance to win prizes, including Waggiest Tail, Best Biscuit Catcher, Veteran Dog (over seven years old) and Best Rescue.

Opening the show will be Izzy the dog, who made a name for herself after going missing for two weeks, sparking a search across Darlington before being found four miles from where she was lost.

Kay Sandham, of Cockerton Community and Business Group, who have organised the dog show in partnership with Skernedale Dog Training Club, said: "We shared the news over Facebook when Izzy went missing and when she was found, so I thought it would be a nice thing to have her open the show.

"I contacted Izzy's family to ask and they all seemed quite excited about it."

There will be various stalls and refreshment stands for those who don't wish to compete but want to watch the drama unfold.

Cockerton Community and Business Group has invited local groups and charities to the event to promote their own cases/

Registration for entry will begin at 11.30am and costs 50p to enter each category.

Judging will commence from 12.30pm and rosettes will be awarded to third place.
