A SCOUTS group organised an event with members of the community to bridge the gap between generations.

Funded by the National Lottery Reaching Communities and led by Youth Focus: North East in partnership with Tees Valley Rural Action (TVRA), Heighington Baden Powell Scout Group spent several weeks researching its village's history before presenting their work at Heighington Village Hall.

Among the topics presented were the history of Heighington Parish and the Women's Institute.

The Scout history event raised £547, with £300 raised by Heighington Homemakers through a fashion show and a £75 donated by a resident.

The money will be used towards the goal of installing a defibrillator in the village.

Councillor Gerald Lee said: "In addition to the time the Scouts spent putting their information together we were impressed by the initiative they displayed.

"Well done to the Scouts themselves, well done to their leaders and well done to their parents - all were a credit to the parish and we were proud to be involved in this successful event.

"A big thanks to our Scouts, Chris Lloyd, Tees Valley Action Group and everyone who came along to support the event."
