A PRIMARY school has raised hundreds of pounds for charity after an event in school.

The Federation of Abbey Schools is supporting Age UK this year.

The schools' Charity Committee, which includes staff, governors, parents and pupils, organised a coffee morning to support their chosen fund.

Age UK's ukulele band performed at the event.

And pupils gave drama and speech performances, while a Year 4 class sang songs for all those who attended.

Parents and families baked cakes to sell at the event – and any left over were given to Kings Church Food Bank, at the request of Age UK.

So far, £305.08 has been raised.

Before the event, Simon Davidson from Age UK visited the school to speak to both infant and junior assemblies about what the charity does and who it helps.

Children have also produced hand made Easter Cards for elderly relatives and neighbours.

Age UK North Yorkshire and Darlington provide services including respite day care, befriending, computing and internet training and a range of activities to help reduce isolation in later life.
