AN OUTDOOR learning programme has seen young nature lovers inspired by the annual RSPB Big Bird Watch 2019.

All pupils from Northwood Primary School, based off Pendleton Road South, Darlington, have joined in with the making bird feeding balls to entice more species of birds to the school's nature reserve to learn more about their habitats and diets.

Zoe Beach, headteacher at Northwood, said: “The Big Bird Watch aims to get children closer to nature, which is something that aligns with us at Northwood. We have a fantastic green space at the school for children to benefit from and our very own wilderness garden with sensory plants where we grow vegetables and house bird feeders. Being able to take part in outdoor learning and having access to green space is something which children hugely benefit from.

“At Northwood we understand the uniqueness of children and offer interesting and creative ways to learn including gardening, cooking and arts and crafts. We were also recently named as the joint top performing primary school in Darlington for combined reading, writing and maths for the 2017 to 2018 academic year.”
